The CVSA (Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance) is currently hosting their annual International Roadcheck from May 14th to May 16th across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. This period sees a heightened focus on motor carrier enforcement as officers conduct inspections, pulling in a significant number of drivers each year to ensure vehicle and driver compliance on the road.
Read on for our information and tips on passing a CVSA inspection with flying colors!
How Many Vehicles Are Inspected During CVSA?
In 2023, they inspected 59,429 commercial vehicles and issued a total of 116,669 violations at a rate of almost 2 violations per truck.
17,479 of these violations were out-of-service violations. 5.5% of drivers were placed OOS. Of the inspected trucks, almost 20% had at least one violation.
What is Their Area of Focus This Week?
Each year the CVSA selects an area of focus, although they inspect for any and all violations. The focus this year is on driver substance abuse, alcohol possession, vehicle tractor protection, and anti-bleed back systems. You may be asked to assist the officer in inspecting your truck, so be prepared to answer their questions.
